Today I left Paris by train and came to a part of the world several hundred miles from anyplace I’ve ever been before. That alone is a chilling adventure but the fact the I’ll be here for several months, versus just a short vacation, only enhances the frisson of newness. I’ll begin to tell you about where I am and what I’m doing sometime on January 27 or 28, depending on several things, such as figuring out where to do my laundry. (It might involve a 5-mile bike ride, then a train to Perpignan.).
